Oregon Special Interest Law

Did you know you can put Year of Make (YOM) plates on your classic car or truck? Your vehicle only needs to be 25 years or older under Oregon law. Besides having classic plates that match the character of your vehicle the biggest advantage to registering as Special Interest is the cost. When you register your car as Special Interest, you pay a one-time fee ($112.50 in 2023) and you have a permanent registration. You don't have to pay every other year.

You can read more about it on the DMV's website by clicking the button below. Info on Special Interest can be found on page 7 of the link.

When you register your vehicle with a Special Interest registration, it does not mean you cannot drive your car. It means that you are using your car as a collector car, driving it to shows, parades, club meetings and events, on cruises, etc. It also allows you to drive it for maintenance purposes. The law intends for it not to be used primarily for a transportation car like the one you drive to work.
